Radoslav Putar Award, awarded to young visual artists in Croatia, was
established by the Institute for Contemporary Art in Zagreb in 2002.
Initially, for artists under 35, it has recently been amended 40 years of
age to better reflect and serve the contemporary art scene in the
country.

Each year a five-member international jury selects four finalists to
present their work in a group exhibition and later selects a winner.
The winner is awarded a residency program in the US, a solo
exhibition in Zagreb, and serves as an award jury member the
following year.

The finalists’ exhibitions are organized in a partnership with various
Croatian galleries: Gliptoteka HAZU (2002 and 2004) and Gallery
Križić Roban (2003 and 2005) in Zagreb, Gallery Galženica in Velika
Gorica (2006 – 2015), and Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art
in Rijeka (2016 – 2019).

Solo exhibitions for the award winners were previously organized in
collaboration with Gallery Miroslav Kraljević (2003 – 2011), Gallery
Academia Moderna (2012 – 2013).

ICA has hosted the winner’s solo exhibition as of 2014 and organizes
an educational program for the applicants, to assist them with the
application process, in Zagreb and online, reaching artists in other
cities in Croatia.

The following publications contain general information on annual events
related to the award and presents the finalists of the competition.
Brochures have been printed in all years but 2008 due to the lack to
support to the award.
