********************************************
Institute of Contemporary Art is celebrating its 20th anniversary during the year 2014.

Founded in 1993 as a program of the Open Society Institute – Croatia, the Soros Center for Contemporary Art, and part of the SCCA Network, its first venue was in the premises of the Gallery of Contemporary Art, and has now moved to its eighth address, and for the first time with own gallery space.

The Institute became independent 1998 when it was established as a not-for-profit NGO founded by former employees and members of the Board, as well as regular collaborators:
(Karmen Bašić, Branka Stipančić Darko Šimičić, Jadranka Vinterhalter, Janka Vukmir, Boris Cvjetanović, Branko Čegec, Igor Kuduz, Leonida Kovač, Mladen Lučić, Slaven Tolj, Zlatko Gall, Zvonko Maković, and later Agar Pata joined us.)

The last three years we have shared offices and gallery space with the Association Academia Moderna, which has kindly, collegial and friendly offered us their hospitality.

The new gallery space we are now opening in Zagreb will be aimed to hold exhibitions of local and foreign artists, research projects and projects built of the Institute’s documentation. Also, the new space will finally provide appropriate working conditions. The Institute will continue and expand its live programs, interviews with artists and other protagonists of the art scene, and more…

In our new venues it will be possible to obtain the publications of the Institute for Contemporary Art as well as publications and objects related to the current exhibitions and other programs, and publications and works of members and founders of the Institute for Contemporary Art.

Exhibition of 100 reasons to celebrate – 20 years of the Institute for Contemporary Art shows our publications, documents, memorabilia, keepsakes and various aspects of the Institute from our first to the present day. In fact, a whole new space, and just for this occasion, is turned into a gallery, including in office space. The exhibition is conceived as a space for recollection, celebration, planning, participation and fun.

On several monitors you can see hours and hours of work of artists, films from various documentaries and materials from many countries with whose artists and organizations we have cooperated during our previous work.

One corner of the exhibition is devoted to Radoslav Putar Award and its history of 13 years, along with number of participants in this prestigious competition of the only annual award for young visual artists in Croatia, which we have established the 2002 with the support of The Foundation for a Civil Society and Trust for Mutual Understanding from New York .

The exhibition also present materials made in many years of cooperation with the organization of Trieste Contemporanea and our cooperation on the project Continental Breakfast, which has included after the Institute, also numerous other colleagues from Croatia.

We present a series of works of artists we’ve worked with, posters, objects and who knows what else emerges from the boxes, that remained yet unpacked after moving.

Basically, the whole exhibition is the entire Institute for Contemporary Art.

Everything else, and much more is coming soon – on our new website which is now under construction.
