RAJKO RADOVANOVIĆ: ANGRY AMERICAN ARTIST, Artist’s Talk

RAJKO RADOVANOVIĆ
ANGRY AMERICAN ARTIST (a study towards greater anger)

Monday, November 9, 2015. at 7:00p.m.

Angry American artist (study to greater anger) is my new body of work that examines the nature of authority and the choice of an individual/artists between collaboration and resistance (patriotism or art).

The pungent title and content of works (gun and police baton) point to the need and also the lack of ‘anger’ in today’s smug and arrogant artistic production of developed democracies. Prerequisites of this opus are different world-famous examples of anger, revolt and civil disobedience: Occupy Wall Street in New York, the Arab Spring in Tunisia, Pussy Riot in Moscow as well as suppressed or almost non-existent anger of artist in my new environment of New Orleans.

Gun and police baton as objects of repression and violence are available and accepted by many and applied in all the communities that have been in continuous ‘searching’ for democracy and freedom. These items I reconstructed and turned into a ‘decorative’, eye catching objects that we ‘worship’ in illustrious halls of culture.
Artist’s Talk by rajko radovanović is organised on the occasion of his solo exhibition organised by Gallery POOLA in Pula, Croatia.
