Josip Stošić, for the first time in Ljubljana

You are cordially invited to the opening of the exhibition Josip Stošić, on Tuesday, 17. 2. 2015 at 19:00 pm in the Center and Gallery P74. The exhibition will be on view until 10 March 2015.

Josip Stošić Zagreb was a poet, art historian and artist. This is the premiere of his artistic creation and the first posthumous retrospective exhibition, previously presented in Zagreb.

The exhibition presents a completely unknown segment of work of this very important artist, who is not known to the general public. His art work has a significant impact on a number of visual artists and the very development of modern art in Croatia.

In oeuvre, which was presented in numerous group exhibitions he has worked with a range of artists and curators: Boris Bućan, Zdravko Tišljar, Vladimir Gudac, Ladislav Galeta, Goran Trbuljak, Radoslav Putar, Davorom Matičević, Richard Demarco.

Stošić’s work in multimedia includes poetry, text-minute dramas, films, installations, objects, concepts, graphic work, photographs. In the medium of film, he worked together with Darko Schneider as a screenwriter of two films in the 70s of the twentieth century, some film animation was done together with Ladislav Galeta.
At the age of seventeen, in 1951, he self-published a cult book of poetry Đerdan, which was shortly after the publication censored and banned. Together with Radovan Ivšić, Boro Pavlović and Ivan Slamnig he introduced concrete poetry into Croatian art. He studied art history and psychology and until his retirement in 2000, worked as an archaeologist and art historian at the Institute of Art History. There, he also achieved several important scientific discoveries.

Josip Stošić at the time of his life produced only three solo exhibitions, in addition to which he has participated in numerous group exhibitions at home and abroad.
The exhibition “Josip Stošić” was prepared in the organization of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Zagreb and close co-operation of his family (wife Karmen Stošić and son Irin Stošić).
