“Blue Wall Red Door” is a documentary that analyses how people in Prishtina orient themselves, which main buildings or structures they use for orientation and navigation through the town.
In this city definitely no one orients him/herself according to the street names.
Over the past decade, street names have been changed several times, and today it seems as if no one uses them as the landmark.
It can be nicely seen in the film, when the authors ask the taxi company to bring to a particular street or at a specific location. In case they provide a taxi driver the exact address with street name and number of the building, they must give additional number of explanations and descriptions such as, which building is close by the place they are going, or which famous person lives there (mainly relating to important or public figures).
Of course, this does not happen only when someone needs a taxi, but it is the case with various social gatherings and other public interactions.
In each of these situations, one must mention some kind of building or public figure, to explain the meeting place, but certainly not the street name or street number of the building.
The biggest challenge for society is when someone (who usually are foreigners) with a map in his hands asks: “Where is this street or how can I get there?”.
The difficulties start when hardly anyone can direct that other at the location with the exact address, but the best they can, is to direct them just to a certain neighbourhood.
