Davor Pavelić, a visual artist who has moved away from exhibiting in galleries over the years and dedicated himself to illustrator work, is exhibiting his illustrations for the first time at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Zagreb. The exhibition consists of two sections, one representing illustrations from daily or political magazines and the other a group of illustrations for children’s books.
As Croatian newspapers were always less and less interested in illustrations, Pavelić found space for his illustrations on the pages of international newspapers and periodicals, among the most notable publications, starting with The New York Timesand the Boston Globe.

As he is mostly engaged abroad, the audience in Croatia, except in the occasional art exhibitions, has no opportunity to be acquainted with his work, so this exhibition is an opportunity to now get acquainted with interesting works created by various visual techniques, which carry a dose of humor, as illustration usually requires. In addition, the exhibition is an opportunity to incorporate an interesting and very successful corpus of works by Davor Pavelić among the successes of Croatian artists, that society and audiences are too often unaware of.
With the title of the exhibition Free Fall, related to the context of the fate of the protagonists of the creative process, Pavelić speaks of “throwing yourself into the unknown and taking risks. What will be, will be.”
