Many works of art came to life from love affection, because of unrequited love, for eternal love, impossible love, unspeakable love, unforgettable, drowned, unfulfilled or forbidden loves. Works at the exhibition “Divorce” were born out of the process of ending, and the definite end of love, abandonment, cheating, betrayed, and otherwise ended loves, the final act of divorce.

Artists exhibiting at the exhibition said: “The theme we deal with the exhibition is a divorce viewed in a wider context, meaning that the works discuss the periods before and after the divorce. The works deal with the topics ranging from the testimonies of persons who have gone through the process of divorcing the marriage to a universal review on the subject in the form of documentaries, paintings, environments, objects, photographs, poetry … ”

At a time when surreal discussions are held in Croatia about the family, whereby the legislator proposes seemingly comic, if they were not tragic definitions of the 21st century family, the artists are occupied by processes of family segregation, single-parent families, unmarried families, and often unbelievable indifference, neglect, and misunderstanding of social institutions for the reality that takes place before their eyes. Some of the exhibited works speak very personally, and others gather general or other peoples’ experiences of divorce of a relationship or marriage.
