FROM DIASPORA TO DIVERSITIES, book promotion

Thursday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m.
Institute for Contemporary Art
Trg Kralja Tomislava 20, Zagreb

We cordially invite you to the promotion of the project publication “From Diaspora to Diversities”
and talk about the meaning of the term “diaspora” in the context of modern culture and art.

The project “From Diaspora to Diversities” was realized during 2015 – 2017 in Belgrade, Zagreb, Graz, Skopje, Casablanca and Maastricht, in forms of exhibitions, workshops, conferences, discussions and presentations. The basic idea of the project was to review the meaning of the concept of the diaspora in the Western Balkans, primarily in the field of contemporary culture, the changing environment and the way of life in the context of increasing mobility, globalization and cultural nomadism.

The Institute for Contemporary Art participated in the project “From Diaspora to Diversities” with a proposal and selection of artists for the series of exhibitions held in Belgrade, Zagreb and Skopje; hosted the exhibition “Departure / Arrival” by Mirjana Boba Stojadinović and the print workshop by Johanna Marcade Mot “M. P.”

At the promotion will speak project participants, partners, authors of texts and editors of the publication:
Darka Radosavljević Vasiljević and Miroslav Karić (Remont – Belgrade),
Jana Kočevska (Esperanza – Skopje),
Janka Vukmir (Institute for Contemporary Art – Zagreb),
Irena Bekic / Duga Mavrinac, Zagreb

Join us in the conversation and discussion about the issues:
What does the diaspora mean today? How does poetics and personal attitudes change when they meet different cultures and experiences? What are the challenges? How to balance between here and here? Add another question. Your opinion and experience are precious.

The publication includes an overview of the project activities through descriptions and documentation of workshops, exhibitions, as well texts of writers, theoreticians and practitioners with different approaches to the subject.
