Janka Vukmir’s lecture will discuss the programs and activities of the Institute for Contemporary Art in Zagreb, which has just entered its 32nd year of operation and has achieved many regional and international collaborations.
Among the projects implemented is the Radoslav Putar Award, our most important award in the field of contemporary art for visual artists under 40 years of age, which has existed for 23 years. The award was created in collaboration with YVAA – Young Visual Artists Award, Residency Unlimited, New York and Trust for Mutual Understanding, New York, HULU – Split, Split, and for the past few years with Gallery S from Koprivnica. Many of the winners and finalists of the Award have also exhibited at the AK Gallery in the last 12 years, and this lecture will also touch on the state of the art scene in Croatia today, the questions of whether residencies and exchanges are important for the development of artists, the exhibition and educational program, and the exhibition and publishing activities of the Institute for Contemporary Art. In addition to the large archive that the Institute has collected, its digitization is also underway, which is currently partially available online.
