Igor Ruf (Virovitica, 1984) Radoslav Putar Award Winner of 2014, is presenting his first solo exhibition at the Institute for Contemporary Art in Zagreb where in the multiedia manner of their past works.

He adds his own interpretation or vision to the selected moments from his own personal memory, real events and recollections. Selected elements are usually of quite common provenance, nothing of special or epoch-making significance for the social environment, but for who knows what reason, inscribed in author’s personal tissue, personal mythology.
A moment selected from a personal memory, gets processed and recycled by Ruf; he upcycles it and upgrades, usually starting from a single real object to which he adds new sculptural elements, sound, and recognisable cartoon’s’ symbols.

“… despite te fact that in the work Hairdresser of the hill, in which the author connects the hair to the hill and the hill with a hairdresser, we can undoubtfully read his dialogue with the surrealists, humor with which he accesses pretext and ironic play with conventions; they are clearly pointing to a parody and a critical attitude, and distancing of the artists from the surrealist artistic canon. One of the signals is a parody and a cartoon hung on the wall of the hair salon, where “Smrdo Hill” invites pine trees to play the game “barbers and customers”, where author introduces in ludism into his work as its structural element. According to Nabokov “satire is a lesson, a parody is a game.” Igor Ruf does not fall accidentally into parodic intertextual dialogue with surrealist pretexts, because he, like the Surrealists, uses a play as a trigger for the expression of the absurd … “from the text of the Mirna Rul
