8 Apr 2015 at 20:00 – 16 May 2015

Ivan Šeremet (Erdevik, 1952.) will present his exhibition „Works with political prefix“ at the Institute for Contemporary Art, made of video, photographs and installations, mostly produced during 2014.
In 30 years of exhibiting and presence on the contemporary art scene during which he has exhibited abroad only once, this is also the first exhibition that is organized in cooperation with the Institute for Contemporary Art. However, our cooperation has a more than decade-long organizational history, because we collaborated on two international exhibitions significant for Slavonski Brod, Borders in 2000 and Suspense in 2001, held in the public realm of the city. Both of those exhibitions were created thanks to Šeremet’s and darko Šimičićs’ immensely important commitment to organising exhibitions in the post-war atmosphere of Slavonia and Slavonski Brod, which once was an industrial and transit center and has turned into the border town, with many political difficulties on both sides of the border and has thus changed its nature.
Both of those Šeremet’s activities are as important for understanding of his artistic work where he speaks about his environment and about the symptoms of human and inhuman in modern social environment and which refers to the anomalies in the motion through what we would call the desired, normal life. Šeremet doesn’t enjoy the deviations, he seeks at least minimum of standards, minimum of expected human dignity of life in the community and from that position he approaches a critical element themes of his works.
