Marijan Crtalić: Active Memory, solo exhibition

Marijan Crtalić will present a new series of works, interviews, articles and documents that he had accumulated and produced in many years of continuing research of the functioning of self-management and workers’ rights in the former Yugoslavia, on the case of Željezara Sisak [Sisak Ironworks].

Sisak Ironworks was a driver of economic and social development of the city of Sisak and its surroundings, and in many ways marked and helped cultural production and cultural atmosphere in the city. Today, former employees are the victims of unemployment, poverty and the desperate situation of contemporary Sisak along with the county, and is one of the poorest towns in Croatia.
In various media forms , new amount of collected material is represented this time by recorded interviews with various protagonists of the former and contemporary life linked to Ironworks. The study and its main themes are based on the settings that are most relevant to Crtalić himself, life around Ironworks and the social organism it created, such as cultural activities or influence of the Ironworks in participation and creation of civil life of workers and their families.

Marijan Crtalić (Sisak, 1968), a multimedia artist, in 2007 he has started the project Invisible Sisak, from which have developed new projects – Possibility Of Resistance and Festival Željezara [Ironworks].
