Boris Demur (1951 – 2014) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of Raul Goldoni who is often cited as an important educator in Demur’s arts formation. After the initial interest in conceptual art, Demur chose to work in elementary and primary painting, but also he expressed himself through photography, performance, public actions, video works and installations. He was a co-founder and a member of the Group of Six Artists (1975 – 1981). Since 1983 until the end of his life he was obsessively working with the themes related almost exclusively to the motif of spirals.

This Wednesday, May 11 marks the 41st anniversary of the first joint exhibition-action attended by all cofounding members of the Group of Six Artists. Last month, Vlado Martek, who was Demur’s friend since childhood and one of the six artists of the Group, presented the graphic map “Remember life – an homage to Boris Demur,” next month will mark the second anniversary of Boris Demur’s sudden death.

“The authors of the film Dolina Martek Delimar and Petra Hundić grew up in a circle of artists around the Group of Six, so their interest in Boris Demur’s unique personality and his work was a natural process through which they finally recorded Demur’s trace.

Through their companionship in last years of Demur’s life, the girls were revealing an other Demur than the one they knew as girls when they were meeting him with their parents, years ago.

In last years of his life, Demur was spending most of the time at home, in his apartment that was literally turned into an ambient installation, so Dolina and Petra visited him in this spiral ambiance in which Demur through endless conversations revealed why he was calling himself an artist bohemian, flâneur of the spiral path that he used as the universal motive.

Through Demur’s work the girls could identify and connect elementariness and tautology in creation practiced also by Jerman and Martek.

This film is conceived as a small section of Demur’s history through an oral performance as to him the words were almost as important as paintings.”

Dolina Martek Delimar (1988) has completed the School of Textiles and Design.
Petra Hundić (1988) has completed the School of Applied Arts. Now she is running a restoration workshop RE-design.
