“Microbe is an organism typical for modern East Europe, capable of eating as much as served, but also able to, when forced to famine, to live for months fasting, ready to eventually accept any political system, any nasty trick.” (S.M.)

Saša Marković Microbe has never exhibited in Croatia during his life, so this exhibition at the Institute for Contemporary Art is his Zagreb posthumous premiere.

He was an autonomous phenomenon on the art scene in Serbia. His production is based on 6 principles which are adhered to throughout his career: “Art should be narrative, accessible to all, fun and funny, consistent, locally oriented and produced by cheap means.

On these grounds he built the artistic idiom that connected habitus of his life and of his artistic expression, reflection of quotidian social and political reality with personal mythology, auto-ironic speech in the first person with the speech of others, visual and textual language, production of images and performative behavior. His art is spontaneous, born in the milieu of Belgrade subculture.

For Marković art is primarily a form of social communication, socializing, networking and giving, a way of being in the world and the constant search for one’s place in it. (From the text of Dejan Sretenovic)

Darka Radosavljević, together with the Microbe, is a co-founder of the REMONT- independent art organization in Belgrade, she will present his work, exhibition, films and Microbe’s monograph book “Goodbye underground”, which she signs as author and editor.
