  |   Nikica Jurković, as the winner of the 2024 Radoslav Putar Award, will be exhibiting for the first time with a solo exhibition at the Institute for Contemporary Art. He previously stayed at Residency Unlimited in New York, is preparing the production of a new work with our partner Gallery S from Koprivnica, and was a member of the jury for the Radoslav Putar Award in 2025, when we were planning to hold this exhibition, but due to the extended duration of structural renovation at the Institute for Contemporary Art, the exhibition is being held now, and with it we mark the return to the Institute in its gallery space.

A publication accompanying the exhibition is currently in preparation, with texts written by Tena Starčević.

“The works gathered in the exhibition From Road to Road Along the Way can be read as different ways of measuring presence, absence and time. In each of them, measurement is related to the body, space, material, relationship and obligation, and time takes shape through gestures that can be repeated, moved, recorded, lost, stacked or taken with them. This opens up one of the key points of Jurković’s practice: the artist sets simple systems in motion, but then allows them to continue living through their own rhythms, conditions and relationships. The same logic extends to the postcards integrated into the exhibition, which visitors are invited to take. The involvement of the audience thus becomes an integral part of the exhibition: the visitor takes a fragment of it, takes it into their own everyday life, sends it, keeps it or forgets it. From Journey to Journey Along the Way therefore “goes” outside the Institute for Contemporary Art, through other people’s trajectories and small gestures of attention. After leaving the exhibition space, the works continue to exist at least in part as exercises in viewing: in the displacement of objects, the change of rhythm, the trace of use, the void between two events or the moment in which someone recognises their own routine as a form of presence.”
